Christmas is right around the corner. A couple weeks ago I shared some of my favorite places to shop in Kansas City and today I want to share some of my favorite ways to get into the holiday spirit – the Kansas City way.
Enjoy a KC Holiday Tradition
We have some great holiday traditions in Kansas City. A few of my favorites are:
- Country Club Plaza Holiday Lights
- The Mayor’s Christmas Tree and Ice Skating at Crown Center
- City Market Whoville Holidays
- Holiday Tree and Train Village at Union Station
Give to Others
The real spirit of Christmas is the spirit of giving. Here are a few ways you can do it:
- Adopt a family, senior or donate toys
- Give your time – here are some great ways to get involved
- Pass on kindness (something as simple as a hello and a smile can make someone’s day – for real)
Treat Yourself
No time like the present to treat yourself to a little sweet. Here are a couple of my favorite local sweet shops to support:
- Bloom Baking Co
- Sasha’s Baking Co.
- Bizz & Weezy
- Or bake something yourself. Nick and I made the cookies pictured above with Damarion, our Little through Big Brothers Big Sisters of Kansas City and had a great time!
Don Your Table
You already know I’m all about the local meat (more on that here). If you’re planning a meal or need something different to bring to a holiday party, check out one of our fabulous local buchers:
Warm Your Belly
Pump up the carols and pour yourself a warm drink from one of our many KC-based beverage makers. Some of my favorites include:
Take a Moment to Yourself
It’s not specific to KC, but it is important – during the holiday season, taking a few minutes to yourself can mean the difference between enjoying them and rushing through them. It helps you recharge and reconnect with yourself. Here are my favorite ways to do that:
- Keep a gratitude journal (read more on that here)
- Practice yoga
- Meditate
- Rest (more on that here)
- Curl up with a good book (my favorite spots are here)
