Eat Real Food, Part I – Our Challenge

Like thousands of other Americans, it all started with Food Inc. It was December 2009 and I was wrapping Chrismas presents in our small first home (shout out to CSL #829 - a lot of good memories there!). Nick decided to put on Food, Inc and probably still regrets that decision, lol.

Fresh Mediterranean Orzo Salad

Orzo salads are tasty, nutritious and versatile - making them a staple in our kitchen every summer. As long as you have orzo, fresh vegetables and the ingredients for a simple vinaigrette, you can make a yummy lunch in no time. You can even cook up your favorite protein (we like spicy shrimp) to serve on top. This variation is my favorite because of the Maple Balsamic Dressing - yummo!

City Market Coffee House: Coffee, Food and Juice (!) for the Soul

I’ve been a fan of City Market Coffee House since 2007 and it just keeps getting better. Built on a love and appreciation for good coffee beans, the folks at City Market Coffee House don’t do anything 'just because' or without considering the quality and source of their products.

Hang Loose, Eat Longboards and Enjoy the Island

Longboards Wraps and Bowls is hopping every time I go there, and with good reason. They aren’t messing around with their made-to-order Hawaiian- and Asian-inspired wraps and bowls. Follow them on Facebook and you'll see what I mean - pots of simmering goodness, crazy specials and legions of fans. Not only is the food super yummo, the atmosphere transports you to an island with no problems, mon. And who doesn't want to visit an island over their lunch break?

Crispy Kale Chips: An Addiction Worth Keeping

Kale chips are at the top of my list of favorite snacks. They are crunchy and addicting and super healthy. Kale is chock full of fiber, iron, vitamins K, C and A, antioxidants and calcium, so you really can't go wrong.

Pigwich: Sandwiches to End All Sandwiches

Pigwich is a stationary food truck adjacent to mi amor The Local Pig (read all about it, my friend). It has the best sandwiches in #KC. For real, the best freaking sandwiches. They have a set menu featuring old favorites like Cheeseburger and Cheesesteak and more adventurous offerings like Bahn Mi and Falafel. All of them are served on Farm to Market bread (nom) and feature ridiculous house-made toppings (often from local farmers).
